Representative Payee Program

MAHP, Inc.’s Payee Program assists SOCIAL SECURITY, SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME (SSI) and Veteran’s Administration (VA) benefit recipients with budgets and money management. We are available as “Representative Payee” for recipients experiencing challenges managing their financial affairs. The Payee manages a direct deposit checking account in the recipient’s name to pay bills, make necessary and discretionary purchases, maintain savings, and help monitor the recipient’s other needs. The Payee works directly with the client to establish a budget and manage monthly finances. We provide Payee services with face-to face contact for all recipients.

Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishing a monthly budget
  • Prioritizing food, shelter and medical needs
  • Payment of existing bills
  • Assistance with personal savings goals
  • Negotiation with landlords and creditors
  • Help locating other needed resources
  • Guaranteed filing of all required Social Security Administration and VA reports

Payees are not guardians and do not hold powers of attorney

The Payee Process

  2. MAHP will contact Social Security once the payee application is taken.
  3. Upon approval by Social Security an account will be opened.
  4. An initial appointment will be set up with the payee staff to review budget and bills.
  5. A plan for services will be developed.

The Representative Payee program was started in 2008 with a generous grant from the Caroline Peine Charitable Foundation.
